William Hildyard Primary School, Market Deeping

Green Igloo were commissioned by the Governors of William Hildyard to convert and extend the existing staffroom to form a new classroom and by doing so draw the teaching spaces for years 1 to 6 along a corridor at the rear of the school.

The brief also required our team to design a new administration and staffroom block whilst improving the school’s visible presence - the existing school entrance was not visible from the street.

We proposed an extension to the roofline of the street-side Foundation Unit under which we located a glazed entrance lobby. Around this we placed the administration office and the head teacher’s office. This office and the staffroom, both linked directly with the heart of the school, were formed by converting a redundant classroom
